Manager vs. Meek

I’m way too much of a “manager mom” and I need to focus on being more “meek”.

This post was an awesome reminder of this:

The truth embraced: “God is our helper.”
The goal: To depend on Jesus.

Accountability

We spent last weekend in the mountains of New Mexico getting rejuvenated and catching up with people we love dearly.

When Steve and I lived in ATX, we had a group of people that we truly did life with. We were accountable to one another in every area of our lives. Every. Area. We didn’t hold anything back. No sin was too small or large to discuss. No problem to big or small. No joy too miniscule or grandiose. We were – and still are – family with these folks. It was such a blessing to fall back into life together. To share our joys and sorrows…To laugh together. I’ve missed it. Spending kid-free uninterrupted time with these folks was just what we needed. We were so blessed to be able to take the trip and catch up.

But now we are back to reality.

We have some amazing friend here. Truly. Amazing. We love them. But we’re not quitethere yet.

To better explain, I’m going to link to a blog I read this AM. It perfectly explains what true accountability looks like.

There are some items on her list that are true of our lives and relationships with friends right now (e.g., belief in total depravity and God’s sovereignty) and others that need some work (e.g., sharing equally and receiving words that fail).

Her words at the end really struck me…

“There have been seasons where I have had these type of people in my life and seasons where I haven’t. If you have them – praise God. Thank Him. And utilize these people and these conversations. Don’t waste your time with them – talk about Jesus, encourage one another, fight together. If you don’t have these people – pray earnestly and ask. But also seek to be the type of person that you want to find. Reach out and invest time with other people – these relationships don’t happen overnight. They take months and years and commitment.”

These words made me reflect on the fact that community like this is such an amazing blessing. We had it…and to some degree still have it, just from a far. It’s a lot tougher to pick up the phone and call, but I know my girls will always be here for me when I need them. Now I’m just hoping and praying that the deepness of relationship and transparency will develop with some of our friends here.

Lukewarm

Oh did I need to read this today…

“O Infinitely Passionate Father,

You have created me with the capacity for deep affections — to love, to loathe, to desire, to delight, to excite, to grieve, to laugh, to enjoy, to fear, to be depressed, to be thankful. And you made me this way that I may glorify you by finding you my Supreme Satisfaction and the Fountain of everything delightful.

But I confess that my affections for you are often grievously tepid while my selfish interests steam.”

You can see the rest of this awesome prayer here at DesiringGod.org.

Religion vs. The Gospel

I still regularly listen to sermons from our old church in Austin. Over Easter, 13,000 people crammed into the basketball/concert arena in ATX called the Frank Erwin Center to worship Jesus together and hear his word preached. Matt Carter, the preaching pastor, did not disappoint.

I love it when pastors give you history on the context and/or words in the Bible. On Easter, Matt started by talking about the word “Gospel.” The Greek word for Gospel (or good news) is euangelion.   According to wikipedia [insert ashamed look here]  the “Greek word εὐαγγέλιον, euangelion (eu- “good”, -angelion “message”).”

Matt went on to explain that an euangelion was a literal message of Good News. Back in the day cities had walls around them. If some other army wanted to attack a city, the city would send out it’s army for protection. IF the defending army won~ they would send back a messenger to the city with an “euangelion” or a message of good news that the battle had been WON.

Are you seeing the link… our Gospel, our euangelion is that Jesus died on a cross for US to pay the price for OUR sins.

How amazing is that.

You can hear the whole thing here:

And while we’re at it ~ I have always loved Matt’s sermons on Easter. This was one of my other all time favorite sermons he preached. It’s called The Christ Follower defined. The end of this sermon and the narrative he uses to drive the point home is just unbelievable. Go and listen.

Song for Enduring

He is enough. More than enough.

I love the way You love like no other
It’s got nothing to do with anything that I do
Time and time again You forgive me
So this time I choose to stay here with You

Hold me
Pull me just a little bit closer
I don’t want to lose this moment
You’re love has covered me
And now I can’t get over You
I can’t get over You
I can’t get over You
I just can’t get over You

Here in the arms of my Father
Only grace can be found
So I lay my fears down
Nothing is the same anymore
You’ve changed me from the inside out
Now my heart is beating and it’s singing won’t You…

Hold me
Pull me just a little bit closer
I don’t want to lose this moment
You’re love has covered me
And now I can’t get over You
I can’t get over You
I can’t get over You
I just can’t get over You

I can’t get over You

I can’t get over the way
Your love stays the same, oh Lord
I can’t get over the way
Your love stays the same, oh Lord

Even through the good and the bad times
You stay the same
So my song will remain
Lord…

Hold me
Pull me just a little bit closer
I don’t want to lose this moment
You’re love has covered me
And now I can’t get over You
I can’t get over You
I can’t get over You
I just can’t get over You

I can’t get over You
I can’t get over You
There’s nothing I can’t do
I just can’t get over You

I can’t get over You

Remembering what’s important

It’s easy to get lost. It’s easy to forget what matters and to focus on things that are not eternal. It’s easy to try to do things on your own.

It can be tough to find your way, to stay focused on heavenly things, to rely on HIM.

Listening to this song today as inspiration to stay on the RIGHT track!

Salvation is Here

God above all the world in motion,
God above all my hopes and fears,
Well I don’t care what the world throws at me now,
It’s gonna be alright!
[HEEEY]

Hear the sounds of the generatorions,
Making loud our freedom song,
All in all that the world will know Your name,
We’re gonna be alright!

Cause I know my God saved the day,
And I know His word never fails,
And I know my God made a way for me,
Salvation is here.

God above all the world in motion,
God above all my hopes and fears,
Well I don’t care what the world throws at me now,
It’s gonna be alright!

Cause I know my God saved the day,
And I know His word never fails,
And I know my God made a way for me,
It’s gonna be alright!

Cause I know my God saved the day,
And I know His word never fails,
And I know my God made a way for me,
Salvation is here.

Salvation is here,
Salvation is here and it lives in me,
Salvation is here,
Salvation in God means to set me free,
Salvation is here,
Salvation is here and it lives in me,
Salvation is here,
Cause you are alive and you live in me!
Salvation is here,
Salvation is here and it lives in me,
Salvation is here,
Cause you are alive and you live in me!

Cause I know my God saved the day,
And I know His word never fails,
And I know my God made a way for me,
It’s gonna be alright!

Cause I know my God saved the day,
And I know His word never fails,
And I know my God made a way for me,
Salvation is here.

Salvation is here and it lives in me,
Salvation is here,
Cause you are alive and you live in me!
Salvation is here.
